2011 Utah T E A M Chess Championship

4 Rd. Swiss TWO Sections!!! OPEN and U-1400!

Sat. Sep. 24th St. James Episcopal Church 7486 Union Park Ave. (1300 E)

Minimum of 6 teams per section, otherwise the U-1400 will be combined with the Open section.
IF we end up combining the sections, the U-1400 teams will be competing for the top and U-1400 prizes.

Three players on each team. U-1400 means teams with an average rating of 1399 or below.
There are NO restrictions as to how an U-1400 team can be formed. Regular USCF ratings will be used from the September supplement.
Unrated players will NOT be counted towards the team average. Substitutes are
allowed, but must be lower rated than the player they are replacing, and must be identified before the first round.

Time Controls: Both Sections: G/60 td/5. Results will affect your “quick” and “regular” ratings.

USCF Membership Required. (Can be purchased on-site) This is a “Booster” event, meaning that you
can join the U.S.C.F. for the first time, or re-new after a 5 year lapse, and you get to play in this tournament for free!

A few points of clarification:

1. The board order will be determined by rating.
Highest rated player will play on board 1, next highest on board 2, and lowest rated player will play board 3. This rating order will hold true even when a substitute player is playing,
regardless of which player the substitute has replaced. Unrated players will play on the lowest board(s).

2. Whatever color a team is assigned, board 2 will be the opposite color.

3. Tie-Break Criteria for Trophies:
1. Overall total game score.
2. Head to head results.
3. Standard tie-breaks of Modified Median, Solkoff, and Cumulative. Based on TEAM results.

Prizes: Two Cash prizes in EACH section, plus trophies and medals!
Let’s make this a well attended tournament! The more players that compete,,, the higher the prizes will climb!

Team Cash Prizes: Based on 6 teams per section.

   Open Section: Under 1400:
1st $150 1st $90
2nd $ 50 2nd $30

Other Team Awards: The following list will apply to EACH section!!!

Each 1st place team will win individual trophies!

Top Club, College, High School, Jr. High School, Elementary, and Family teams will all earn Medals!

Individual Awards: Top Bd.1, Bd. 2, Bd. 3 in each section will win a trophy.

Family teams must be from same family. Step-families qualify. 2 family members and 1 “friend of the family” would be a “regular” team.
All scholastic teams from Elem. - College: Players do not need to be from the same school/college, but all 3 players do need to be of an appropriate age in order to qualify for a scholastic team. For example; two 4th graders and an 8th grader, would be a “regular” team.

We will soon have a page up and running on the Utah Chess website listing teams looking for players, and players looking for teams. www.utahchess.com If Sep. 24th rolls around and your name is not yet on a roster, come on down to the tournament, and we will form as many teams as possible from all the players who show up.

A reminder: IF we end up combining the sections, the U-1400 teams will still be competing for the U-1400 prizes. If sections are combined, prizes will still be based on 6 team minimum per section. For example:
9 teams total (5 Open and 4 U-1400) = Open prizes paid at 83.33% and U-1400 prizes paid at 66.67%
