For one day only, on Oct. 8th 2011, the Weekly Quick Tournament will transform itself into the:

GO  Eliza !!! Chess Tournament - ONE Section ONLY

What:  3 Rounds. G/29 w/5 sec. delay.  This will affect your quick rating only.

Where:St. James Episcopal Church 7486 S. Union Park Ave.(1300 E)

When:    Saturday Oct. 8th.    Register: 12 Noon -12:50          Round 1 will start promptly at 1 PM.  (We have to be out of the Church by 4:45 due to another gathering after     we leave, so rds. 2 and 3 will be ASAP)  This is basically the same exact format as the regular weekly quick tournaments, except we will be starting earlier, AND on time.  Again,,, rd. 1 will start at 1 PM.

Why:  This tournament is being held in Honor of Eliza McIntosh, who it is anticipated that on Oct. 8th, will be the holder of a World Record for the longest Wheelie in a Wheelchair. (Over 10 miles)

Prizes:  None.  All proceeds, every dollar ($5 minimum) taken in as entry fees will be donated to the Jr. Wheelin Jazz Program, that Eliza is helping to raise funds for.  To make an additional (tax deductible) donation, or to pass this along to others who may be interested, here is the link:  www.wheelinjazz.com

Prizes (Take 2):  Of course we won’t leave you hanging, (like you do your pieces) so we will have DOOR prizes, and performance prizes based on the size of your donation.

We will have prizes (of some sort) for each of the following donation “categories”:  $5 – 9.99,,,,,  $10 – 19.99,,,, $20 – 20.99,,,,, $30 – 30.99,,,,  and $40 and UP !!!

The “size” of the prizes will be similar in concept to what we did at the 2010 Chess for Haiti, and this year’s Joplin and Japan tournament.

Advance Entries:  NONE.  Show up,,,, sign up ,,,, donate and play,,, and watch your quick rating go through the roof, as you support Eliza and her Wheelchair Basketball Team.  Don’t forget, her World Record attempt (she has already broken the record in practice) will take place at the East High School track ( 1350 E. Sunnyside  SLC ) at 8:30 AM.  You can join her there Oct. 8, and when she is finished, come to St. James Church to play, and say,

Go Eliza !!!

P R I Z E S   ! ! !

There will be a minimum of  FIVE  prizes handed out, probably in the form of gift cards or something similar, worth approximately $10-$60 each.  The prizes will be handed out to the player who scores the most points, in that particular donation category.   You could win the tournament outright, and if you donated $5, you will win the $5 – 9.99 prize.  (Your “chess” reward will be all of those nice “quick” rating points.) You could finish in last place, and if you are the only donor in the $40 and up category, you will win the $40 and up prize.  In case of a tie between top scoring players in a particular donation category, the prize will be evenly split.  The biggest prize will go to the largest donor, and there will be door prizes.

Again, there is a $5 minimum donation to play, and as a reminder, any and all donations are not only truly appreciated, they are also tax deductible.  Cash will be accepted, and if you would like to write a check, please make checks payable to

Neuroworx, a qualified 501(c) 3 non-profit organization.  We are hoping that Eliza and her family will stop by, so that we can celebrate with them, in Honor of Eliza breaking the World Record, for the longest arm-powered Wheelie in a Wheelchair!
